2009 Sustainability Report

The first Sustainability Report for Atlanta was published benchmarking the City’s path towards best-in-class sustainability. It engages stakeholders in conversation surrounding Sustainable Atlanta’s successes, current initiatives and future strategies.

Water Task Force focuses on 50-year vision

Sustainable Atlanta Water Task Force is committed to leading by example and driving change. The Task Force guides policy that incentives good water actions, uses technology to ensure infrastructure updates are ongoing and drives awareness to educate residents on their responsibilities. This current sustainability effort ensures a better planet for future generations.

City of Atlanta Sustainable Building Ordinance

Focuses on sustainable buildings and development, air quality and transportation oriented initiatives to reduce fossil fuel usage for all new buildings and major renovations served as conduit for a draft of the City of Atlanta Sustainable Building Ordinance. The Ordinance’s core focus is on protecting the health and welfare of Atlantans, in addition to preserving the economic, social and environmental competitiveness of the city.

Established Recycling and Materials Management Task Force

In 2009, Sustainable Atlanta convened an advisory board made up of a diverse group of leaders from many industries. This board has helped Sustainable Atlanta to draft policy towards reviewing the city’s zoning ordinances and codes, supporting legislation and requiring all solid waste/recycling haulers to report tonnage of waste and recovered material collected in the City of Atlanta. As a result, this task force has successfully drafted 10 policy recommendations to address materials recovery and recycling development.
